About this Work

Sunny Hours in Jamaica by Henry Scott Tuke captures a quiet moment of rest beside the water. A young Jamaican boy reclines in the foreground while a sailing vessel moves across the harbor behind him, set against a distant shoreline and softly painted hills.

Tuke’s fluid watercolor technique gives the scene an airy, sunlit quality. Pale blues, warm creams and muted earth tones create a sense of tropical heat and stillness, while the broad sail adds structure and movement to the composition.

Created during Tuke’s 1923–1924 journey through the Caribbean, the work reflects his longstanding interest in maritime life, the human figure and the effects of natural light. This print is a refined choice for collectors drawn to Caribbean art, coastal scenes and relaxed figurative compositions.
