About this Work

Year 1938
Location Caribbean

Jeanne-Marie Goes to Market PL8 by Anne Elizabeth Fleur captures the warmth and vitality of a bustling Caribbean marketplace, where vendors, shoppers, and children gather amid baskets overflowing with fresh tropical fruit. Smiling faces, colorful attire, and lively conversation evoke the welcoming spirit of island communities and the traditions that have long made market day a centerpiece of Caribbean life.

Originally created as an illustration for Fleur's beloved Jeanne-Marie Goes to Market story, the artwork pairs expressive linework with soft hand-colored pencil accents in warm reds, yellows, and blues. The composition celebrates the market as a place of connection, where commerce, culture, and community come together in everyday moments.
