Hampstead Estate, northeast coast, 2020. The beach itself has a bit of legend to it — a Pirates of the Caribbean filming location, tucked away on one of the least-visited islands in the Lesser Antilles. But that's not what this image is about.

Using intentional camera movement, the photographer has pulled the scene apart into horizontal layers — deep saturated teal at the center, white surf dissolving below it, cooler blue-grey sky above. Nothing is sharp. Nothing needs to be. It's less a picture of a beach than a record of what it felt like to stand there.

Yuri A. Jones

Yuri A. Jones is a Dominican photographer based in the U.S., whose work is deeply tied to the island he grew up on. He shoots nature, landscapes, aerials, and cultural scenes; the waterfalls, forests, coastlines, mountains, and everyday Caribbean moments that most people walk past without stopping. Before photography, he spent years working in finance. He left that behind to build something closer to what he actually cared about.
