On a cold, wet morning near Pagua Bay, this mist-covered sunrise revealed itself by chance. After a rushed first attempt failed to capture the scene as imagined, I returned early the next morning. I waited patiently for the right balance of fog, shadow, and warm orange light.

Framed by trees and centered on the glow rising over the mountain, this image reflects the quiet reward of landscape photography: returning, waiting, and trusting the light to arrive.

Yuri A. Jones

Yuri A. Jones is a Dominican photographer based in the U.S., whose work is deeply tied to the island he grew up on. He shoots nature, landscapes, aerials, and cultural scenes; the waterfalls, forests, coastlines, mountains, and everyday Caribbean moments that most people walk past without stopping. Before photography, he spent years working in finance. He left that behind to build something closer to what he actually cared about.
