About this Work

Getting to Know the British West Indies PL18 by Shannon Stirnweis captures the joy and adventure of childhood in the Caribbean. Three children ride together on a donkey, their smiling faces and playful energy conveying a sense of freedom, friendship, and carefree exploration. In the distance, figures gathered around a fire hint at the warmth of community life that forms the backdrop to the scene.

Rendered in expressive black linework against a vibrant turquoise background, the artwork combines bold graphic simplicity with affectionate storytelling. Created as part of Stirnweis's Getting to Know the British West Indies series, it celebrates the everyday moments that have shaped generations of Caribbean life.

Filled with nostalgia and charm, this print brings warmth, character, and a timeless Caribbean spirit to living rooms, children's spaces, offices, or hallways, making it a wonderful addition for collectors of Caribbean art, history, and illustration.
