Reisha Felix is a self-taught fine arts and multimedia artist originally from the Eastern Caribbean island of Dominica, now based in Toronto, Canada. Her work is rooted in her Afro-Caribbean upbringing and driven by a deep fascination with Black hair, its beauty, versatility, and the cultural weight it carries for people of African and Afrodiasporic descent. Through figurative portraits, she invites viewers to sit with a simple but profound question: what is it about textured hair that makes us want to touch?
To bring that texture to life, Reisha uses a signature technique, building dimension on the canvas with a hot glue gun before painting over it to recreate the curls, coils, kinks, and knots that make each crown its own. The result is work that feels as tactile as it does personal. Alongside her focus on Black hair, she draws from nature, emotion, and the broader traditions of Afro-Caribbean culture, creating paintings that honour the connections between identity, history, and the world around us.
Reisha's work has earned her recognition well beyond the studio. Her digital design was selected for the Regional Municipality of Durham's 2025 Black History Month campaign, appearing as a full bus wrap on Durham Region Transit and earning her a feature on CTV News. She has exhibited across Ontario at venues including the Nia Centre for the Arts, Neilson Park Creative Centre, Withrow Gallery, The Serpa Gallery, Scugog Artspace Gallery, and the Legislative Building in Toronto. Her paintings are held in private collections across Canada, the United States, England, Africa, and the Caribbean.
Beyond the gallery, Reisha has painted live at community and corporate events and facilitated art workshops with organizations like ArtStarts Toronto and the Nia Centre for the Arts, bringing her practice directly to the communities that inspire it.
